Dr. Joe
Using natural materials, thoughtfully detailed, this Fidalgo Island retreat is an exercise in restraint. Sitting in a line below a low, sheltering shed roof, the spaces of this simple cabin capture light and views from all sides. Sited along the verge of a sunny south exposure to one side, and a madrona-sheltered northern bank to the other, the building reinforces the experience of the site’s distinct micro-environments. Interior and exterior spaces alternate below the roof—extending living space and reinforcing a connection to the outdoor environment.
